Should You Stick to Your Epson Printer Cartridge?

By: DanPartridge

Should you buy genuine Epson printer cartridges for your printer or not? It depends on your priorities.

Epson is, without a doubt, one of the best manufacturers of printers and printer consumables in the world today. Their printers, even the high-end ones, all come at a very affordable price. Typically, a brand-new Epson printer comes with four or more Epson printer cartridges, and with constant usage, these Epson printer cartridges can last up to three months.

You can go ahead and enjoy printing with your new Epson printer for these three months. Unfortunately, once the three months are up, you will find yourself facing the reality that although you have probably bought your new Epson printer for a steal of a price, the Epson printer cartridges will set you back for a few quid. The question that you now have to deal with is whether you should buy genuine Epson printer cartridges or buy a third-party replacement ink.

It is not really surprising to find that the printer ink cartridges that Epson produces are expensive. Most printer manufacturers, Epson included, get most of their profits from the printer consumables they produce rather than the printer machines themselves. There are actually some people who find it more practical to buy a new printer than to buy new printer ink cartridges every time they run out of ink because sometimes a set of new ink cartridges are more expensive than the printer itself. This is the reason why third-party replacement inks are becoming more and more popular these days.

Should you buy genuine Epson printer cartridges or should you sample third-party replacement inks? While it is true that you can save a lot of money from buying third-party inks, the money that you will be saving should not be the sole factor in your decision-making. You should also consider the following:

1. Quality. Regardless of what advertisements say, nothing beats the original. It is true that some replacement inks can accurately mimic the quality of prints produced by genuine inks, but there will always be a difference no matter how subtle they are.

2. Durability. The Wilhelm Imaging Research has determined that the photo prints produced by third-party replacement inks last no more than five years. On the other hand, photo prints produced using genuine inks like the Epson printer cartridge can last up to 92 years.

3. Installation. Epson printers have built-in software that will guide the user on how to install the Epson printer cartridge properly. On the other hand, many replacement inks have a do-it-yourself appeal, and so installing them on your printer can get really messy.

4. Warranty. Epson voids the warranty on printers where their users have utilized third-party replacement inks instead of genuine inks. This means you cannot have them repaired for free if your printer gets damaged by the replacement inks.

Eventually, no matter what others say, it is all up to you whether you would stick to your genuine Epson printer cartridges or try out the third-party replacement inks. If you want true quality that lasts, go for genuine Epson printer cartridges. If you really prefer to save money, use third-party replacement inks.
